Over the past nine weeks we have been eagerly tuning into ITV to watch the X-Factor. Aside from the obvious singing competition, the female judges Tulisa and Kelly have been partaking in their own mini-competition, a fashion-off. Under the scornful eye of the British media, the judges have worn some amazing dresses in the hope to be crowned Style Queen. iFashion has of course been watching closely over the weeks, looking for the judge who has clocked up the most style points and we can now proudly announce Kelly Rowland as the overall winner. Tulisa’s act may have won the competition but it was Kelly’s sometimes classic, sometimes daring outfit choices that have had us hooked from the start.
Casting our minds way back to week one, the judges stepped out for the first live show in mini dresses, although Kelly’s dramatic Atelier Versace gown made a bold statement in contrast to Tulisa’s relatively safe Herve Leger dress. On the Sunday, Tulisa opted for a metallic mini (which soon turned into a bit of a recurring choice for the N-Dubz singer) while Kelly looked like a dream in a Cavalli gown.
Tulisa stepped up her fashion game a notch come week 2. Wearing a leather cut dress with uneven hemline, this was one our favourite Tulisa looks. However, Kelly’s sophisticated Todd Lynn mini dress (which displayed her killer legs to perfection) and the edgy mesh cut out Julien Macdonald dress on results night won yet again. Tulisa nonetheless looked gorgeous ballerina mini dress; although we couldn’t help thinking she should have been perched on top of a cake!
Week three proved to be a tense week on X Factor, as the female judges clashed over more than just their style choices. Tulisa accused Misha B of bullying didn’t stop her dazzling in the fashion department. We really liked her full length gown with high neckline and silver sparkle, despite some critics slamming her choice. On Sunday night showed off Tulisa’s softer side, we loved her gentle tousled hair and peachy makeup matched with a midi length sequin number. Kelly however, once again pipped Tulisa to the post in a high street dress from Topshop and an amazing sequin bustier with sheer-skirt on Sunday night.
Just when we thought Kelly was on a home-run to the fashion Queen Crown, a mysterious illness week 4 meant ex contestant and pop star Alexandra Burke took her place. We have to say, although Tulisa got into the Halloween spirit in a sexy catsuit, Alexandra’s sparkly mini dress and tough black boots won her the one-off title. Sorry Tulisa
Kelly returned the following week in two floor sweeping gowns. Both were relatively safe choices and dare we say a little dated in comparison to Tulisa’s more youthful dresses. For the first time, Tulisa won us over with another sparkling metallic mini (we forgive her for the too-short length as she does have great legs) and a white ruffle gown on the Sunday. Tulisa’s edgy yet feminine choice on results night definitely helped her get the week 5 win, not to mention the inventive placement of her red poppy. Bravo!
Kelly was obviously fully recovered by week seven and worked her style maven status in a Stella McCartney tuxedo. This was actually one of our favourite female judge looks ever; a refreshing change from a dress! Following on from her killer Saturday night look, on Sunday she wore a sheer top and black maxi skirt; a chic and classic choice. Tulisa didn’t really have a chance in an off shoulder ball gown and yet another sequin mini dress.
Boosted by the resounding praise from the fashion press, Kelly’s week 8 outfits were equally praiseworthy. Wearing a summer bright Sass and Bide maxi dress and a stunning two tone dress at the results show, Kelly yet again stole the fashion spotlight, while Tulisa marched out in yet more mini dresses.
Tulisa obviously tried to wear more daring ensembles for the quarter finals; but her choices were not quite the fashion triumphs we had hoped for. The animal print and metallic gold mini dress showed Tulisa taking more risks (we loved the cut out shoulders) but was no match for Kelly’s dreamy Hugo Boss BLACK dress.
Last week came the semi-finals and on Saturday night Kelly made an impact in monochrome. Sporting a gorgeous Osman dress with side splits the star looked demure. Tulisa chose a figure hugging bandeau maxi in jewel toned purple, which is so on-trend for A/W 2011. The judges went head to head in metallic on results night. Tulisa chose a peplum waist and capped sleeves and Kelly went for dazzling Jenny Packham dress.
The explosive final, which aired yesterday, saw Kelly stop the show in a gorgeous mullet couture gown by Julien Macdonald. While Tulisa’s fishtail gown held its own; she found it rather hard to walk in though we loved the royal blue colour, very on trend. Needless to say, Kelly wins the fashion wars by a country mile but we are sure Tulisa doesn’t mind too much. After all, her little muffins, LittleMix went on to make history, becoming the first group ever to win the show!
