Take inspiration from the track and field this season as Sports Luxe is one of SS12’s defining trends. The return of bright colours in simple, sporty silhouettes started on the catwalks, with designers such as Alexander Wang, Thomas Tait, 3.1 Philip Lim and Isabel Marant all referencing sportswear in their recent collections. Racer front vests, crop tops, zips, two tone and trainers are key to creating the perfect sports luxe look.
Wear sporty separates in contrasting colours and prints. Printed bomber jackets teemed with slouchy sports shorts make for a relaxed daytime look. We love the £50 jacquard bomber from Topshop, which should be worn open to show a contrasting T-shirt. Motel’s Patricia top ticks all the boxes; cropped, colour panels and mesh detailing. Complete the look with some bright white high tops to become a fashion champion.
The sports luxe look can also work for night, with some clever proportioning and colour blocking. We love this bright blue Yayer crop top worn with light pink Topshop skinny jeans. Throw on a crisp white blazer and pop on some wedge ankle boots and you are ready to throw some serious shapes on the dance floor. These pieces all work well together, especially as everything (bar the blazer) has exposed zip detailing which pulls the look together nicely. Finish with a relaxed grab bag. We are head over heels for the Emile Trapeze bag by Mischa Barton from Frank and Doll. Covered in zips and with an exposed, reversible leopard print purse; it’s what dreams are made of.
