The flamboyant and unapologetically bright Versace for H&M fashion show took place last week in New York, along the Hudson River on a pier. After a long month of growing anticipation, the pier was swamped with an array of dazzling A listers; including Uma Thurman, Blake Lively, Chloe Moretz, Jessica Alba, Blake Lively, Nicki Minaj and Emma Roberts, to name but a few.
In typical dramatic and luxurious Donatella fashion, the stars made their way through a long black corridor before being greeted by a cocktail reception in a room adorned with empty gold frames. After some probable mingling and margarita sampling, two doors slid open to reveal the catwalk and seats laid out for the esteemed guests.
The collection was one filled with studded leathers, metallic, Tropicana prints and brights, form fitting mini dresses, tight leggings and super high heels. Of course, images of the collection had been released to the press about a month ago, so this show was more about the huge influence of Versace as a globally recognised and applauded fashion empire; one synonymous with money, grandeur and high shine glamour. It had all the trimmings of a high end fashion week show, though the affordable pieces will be available on the high street from the 17th.
Nicki Minaj later performed in sky high heels and rainforest green wig, which complimented her bright Versace jumpsuit perfectly. Emma Roberts wore a similar number, albeit in a paired down way with loose waves and sultry smoky eyes. Wearing a yellow shift dress and her hair in a bouncy bob, Chloe Moritz looked cute and age appropriate while Jessica Alba all out smouldered in a black studded Versace dress and black Louboutin pumps. Others who opted for classic black included Uma Thurman in black evening dress and blazer, while Blake Lively Jazzed her largely black ensemble up with a bustier dress complete with sparkling black sequin segments.
The mini concert was held in a third room, as another door opened up to reveal a concert stage. Designer Alexander Wang was allegedly singing along to every word of Nicki Minaj’s songs. The show closed in a predictably overstated manner, when Prince took to the stage in a spectacle reminiscent of a nightclub in Miami.
