Often it is hard to envision wearing spring’s more scanty trends when the idea of wearing anything less than a giant knitted cable sweater, woollen cocoon coat and leather trousers (with tights underneath) seems most unappealing in the harsh reality of winter.

One trend, however, that we are starting to warm to (and may even start wearing now) is the pyjama trend. While we may save silky pyjama separates for the bedroom and by the fire at this time of year, come spring the sumptuous new look will be far too stylish to stay indoors. Presented as the ultimate new evening look for girls who like to try something a bit different; airy, silky and seductive loungewear was a big hit on the SS122 runways.

The pyjama party was perhaps most successful at Stella McCartney. The low maintenance look was juxtaposed brilliantly with her traditional penchant for structured trouser suits, yet still exuded a classy after-hours glamour. High waisted slouchy trousers, easy shirts and loose blazers all in the same print made a sophisticated statement. Clements Ribeiro worked slouchy PJ pants with cut out halter tops in the same pattern, while No21 looked to the wilderness for inspiration, using bold zebra print in button front shirts, lean trousers and matching pumps.

Slouchy satins also dipped into micro trends at Jill Sander and Antonio Marras. A monochromatic oriental print covered a pyjama two piece at Marras, meanwhile Sander incorporated paisley print into pyjama pieces. Jonathan Saunders then broke the rules, mixing and matching black and blue polka dot separates with bright colour block platforms. A very cool and comfortable summer is on the cards for us with this key trend, just make sure you pop on a pair of killer heels instead of slippers!
