Last night, all eyes were on Belfast for the 18th annual MTV EMA! Lady Gaga was the big winner, taking home four awards and confirming her status as the Queen of Pop! Not only did she win the coveted Best Female, Best Song and the Best Video awards, but received the brand new Biggest Fan Award, which is given to the artist with the most dedicated fan base! Wearing a predictably kooky outfit, compromising of thousands of mirror discs in a mermaid-esque fishtail dress (very S/S 2012) Gaga completed her look with a slick of blue lipstick and sparkling green brows!

More than 8000 music fans tuned into watch the star studded event at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, where some of the biggest names in music gave highly anticipated live performances. Lights, lazers, LEDS, smoke jets, glitter cannons, projections, balloon explosions and dry ice were all used to stun the audience yet nothing quite got our attention like the outrageous costumes and stage outfits worn by entertainment’s finest.

This year’s host, Selena Gomez turned on the charm and successfully showed her comedic side in lively skits and stunts. Looking stunning as she arrived on the pink carpet in a floaty ruffle Marchessa dress, she won our vote for best dressed at the event. Changing several times during her hosting duties, Selena choose lashings of sequins and fitted metallic pants to demonstrate her edgier side. Performing with her band, The Scene, Selena impressed in a teeny ’70s-inspired purple jumpsuit and suede boots. However, she topped even that performance when she sung from within a ring of raging fire; wearing a fitted leather bodice and floaty printed skirt. Don’t ask us how it didn’t catch alight, the power of five star pyro techniques!

Apart from Lady Gaga’s multiple wins, it was definitely a night for the boys. Justin Bieber, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Queen, Eminem, Bruno Mars, Linkin Park and Korean boy band BIGBANG (who were a surprise win for Best Worldwide) all took home gongs. Katy Perry was the only other female winner of Best Live. With her bubblegum hair still bright and candyfloss coloured ensemble, she looked fresh and fun.

Jessie J, who gave two of the best live performances of the night, with her rendition of hit single Price Tag and a touching tribute to the late Amy Winehouse, also bought fun and flavour to the awards show with her outfit choices. We loved her last outfit, a bright cheetah print maxi dress, finger-waved hair and red lips. Her first look was typical Jessie J, form fitting body stocking complementing her toned figure, which seems to be her stage outfit no-brainer at the moment. Her second look, however, gained the most respect from the fashion press. Wearing a slinky maxi length Mary Katrantzou maxi dress with DM boots in bright white, she was a flawless example of how to work winter print!
