What: A new age in City restaurants
Where: The Drift (www.thedriftbar.co.uk)
Why: Flatbread beyond my wildest dreams
Sometimes you walk around Liverpool Street and find some gems that are worth telling the world about. The Drift is one of those sparkling gems. “Hidden” behind a huge fish tank on Bishopsgate, The Drift is a newcomer, serving drinks and food for those in need. I’m always in some sort of need, so decided to check it out.
It’s a random Tuesday night and the place is heaving. The downstairs bar is quite busy, the long bar counter is “draped” in city boys and girls, all enjoying an afterwork drink. We head upstairs and are seated quickly by very friendly service staff. There is quite a lot to take in, the decor is lush. All I can see is sparkly lights, comfy chairs and a bottle of wine I may have just ordered. The atmosphere is relaxed and FUN! Every table is pretty much taken, the place is heaving and yet comes across relaxed, easy and joyful.
As we sip the English rose (which is going down a little too easy), we decided to order some flat bread, one meaty and one fishy. Both are scrumptious, only one thing to mention. They are very generous portions. Share and enjoy them with few friends! Mains came quickly, my chicken was mouth watering and came with such a helping of potatoes that even I couldn’t finish. Even on a busy night, the staff are very attentive, smiley and good at pouring more wine! As we were comfortably numb, we decided that we would go with the pudding… and I am glad that we did. The brownie in particular stole my heart.
The Drift delivers with great food, amazing service and an atmosphere you can’t buy. Great for few drinks after work and dinner later on. Highly recommended, plus only a two minute walk from Liverpool Street. Easy.
