What: Gentlemen’s Afternoon Tea
Where: Sanctum Soho Hotel (www.sanctumsoho.com)
Why: Where else in Soho can you lay in a Jacuzzi drinking whiskey?
I may have just found one of London’s “best kept secrets”, The Sanctum Soho Hotel. I can only tell you of my experience, but I urge you to go and test it for yourself…
Last Saturday it was sunny and hot in London. It was 29c and the city was boiling under the rays. I decided that I needed a treat and booked myself and my fiancée into The Sanctum Soho Hotel for Gentlemen’s Afternoon Tea. Air conditioning and good food were on my mind, little did I know I was going to treated to an afternoon of pure luxury.
The Gentlemen’s Afternoon tea is basically a manly version of the traditional afternoon tea. Mini burgers, rabbit and leek pie and oysters in bloody mary’s are an example of the food served. The savoury selection is so good I even asked for extras. Great little pieces, interesting tastes (incredible would be a better word) and all washed down with a selection of Jack Daniels whiskey. Making it very “manly” indeed. There is certain luxury drinking whiskey with your mini burger.
Before our dessert was served, we were asked if we wanted to go and have it upstairs at the rooftop bar? We were at the lift before she finished the word “rooftop”. The rooftop bar is seriously one of the best kept secrets. It’s not big in any sense of the word, but does fit a bar, loungy seating area in the shade and few tables out in the sun. Safe to say we sat in the sun. Enjoying the afternoon heat, eating double baked chocolate cake with whiskey ice cream whilst drinking whiskey is what dreams are made of. The staff asked if we would like to use the Jacuzzi? Pardon me? Jacuzzi? Sure why now? I thought our afternoon could not get any better, but as I dipped my toes into the bubbling water and slided myself into the Jacuzzi all thoughts of stress melted away. I was in whiskey bubbly heaven.
After bubbling for what seemed like the entire afternoon. We got dressed and asked if we could see one of the rooms. Lucky for us one of the Junior Suites was free. I had to be escorted out. I have not seen rooms this luxurious on this side of Europe in a very long time. Think luxurious and then triple it. I can’t wait to book us in for a weekend as a special treat.
