Whether it’s her bright red locks or eye-catching videos, Rihanna has always been a girl who likes to cause a stir.
It seems lately though, it’s her inner fashionista that has been turning heads. With barely-there dresses or elegant gowns teamed with funky fashion accessories, Ri-Ri knows how to wow the crowds with her sense of style.
Here, in the first part of our interview, she talks about which style works for her body and her passion for fashion!
Do you like dressing up as a pretty girl or do you prefer to funk it out and get more sassy?
I love to be funky. Y’know I love to have a little edge with everything
that I do.
How would you describe your style or look?
I like to dress to my body type. I like clothes that accentuate my
waist, and make it little or make it look little.
Your hair colour is amazing!
Yeah, it feels really loud and liberating (laughs). It’s not a very
quiet colour. It certainly grabs a lot of attention. I have to say that
whether it is positive or negative I get noticed and I definitely can’t hide
anywhere. I’ve had it a little while now and I still really like it. I think
it is really expressive and daring. I love it. It is also fun to just have
your hair be a ridiculous colour. I just wanted something different. Black
hair is my favourite colour on me but I just wanted something that was
really expressive and vibrant.
You are a real fashionista…
I think that growing up in Barbados made me very interested in fashion
because it was easily accessible for me or my friends. When I moved to the
US I really got the bug for it and threw myself into it. I just love it, I
really do. Now I can’t get enough of it. Clothes, shoes, bag…I love it.
What inspired your recent new look and can you describe your style?
This is how I like to dress. I hate when stuff is too high fashion. I like when stuff suits me, my
personality, my age. We kind of decided to do this at the perfect time
because all the designers, their shows all comprise of that edgy stuff; some
have fetish and S&M inspirations and it all matches the new look. I don’t
know if it’s just a coincidence or if it’s meant to be!
Do your clothes make a difference to how you perform on stage?
Definitely. When the whole armour is on, meaning the hair and make-up
and the clothes, you just get a different attitude. The minute I put that
costume on, I turn into a different person.
Check back soon for the second part of the interview, when Rihanna talks designers and her relationship status!
