What: Thai Hospitality like no other
Where: Patara Soho (www.pataralondon.com)
Why: Tranquillity, incredible food and amaze service
Friday night in Soho and I’m starvation central. A few drinks after work and we decided that we really need to get something to eat. Italian? French? British? Nothing really grabbed my attention. As we walked up Greek Street we came across Patara. A well-known Thai fusion restaurant with few branches scattered around central London. I have actually visited Patara in Bangkok, so we decided to see what they had to offer in London.
As you walk in you are instantly teleported to Thailand. The decor, athmosphere and staff have clearly been airlifted as a whole from Thailand to Greek Street. Instantly you feel the difference between Patara and other Thai places. This isn’t a fast food joint. You come here to relax, have amazing food and enjoy the Thai hospitality.
Seated and ready, I quickly scanned through the great selection of cocktails and wine and decided on “Patara Passion” and my date had a “Blue Light”, both delicious. Looking at the menu, we were both surprised by the fact that every item on the extensive menus pulled a cord somewhere. I could have pointed blindly at any dish and enjoyed it. In the end we decided on Thai Tacos (delish), Prawn Bisque (incredible) and satay (nom) to start with. All dishes came quickly even though the restaurant was busy. It was a busy Friday night, yet we both felt totally relaxed, chilled even, just like the Chardonay we were drinking.
Mains followed with a Yellow Curry with Lamb (the softest lamb I have eaten in a very long time) and Rock Tail Lobster, which is one of the chef recommendations and we now understand why. Mouth watering food on a different level all together. As dessert landed on the table, I realised that I had hit the jackpot. My coconut ice cream was so good I could have had another four servings. I’m obsessed with coconut and very picky when it comes to cooking with it. Patara gets my seal of approval thousand times over. LUSH!
