As I arrived at the Park Plaza Sherlock Holmes Hotel I was surprised. I have only really been to massive hotels and this small boutique one looked more like a restaurant than a hotel. I had even crossed the road a times and received some confused looks because I had missed it. I relaxed a little as I walked in, it had a great feel. I did, however, panic a bit when I began to contemplate the size of my room. I have been to humungous hotels with impressive lobbies, only to find my room was like Harry Potter’s under the stairs cupboard – only a little less comfy.
When I got to my door after a swift check-in, however, I soon realised not picking boutique hotels had been my problem all these years: the room was MASSIVE!! As my +1 commented – ‘We could just live here’.
With wooden floors and two TVs, a lounge area, as well as a welcome card, some rasberries, strawberries and chocolate – this was going to be a very nice stay! The bed was massive and it was so nice to be in the centre of London without feeling cramped. The hotel is just a few minutes’ walk from Baker Street tube station so very easy to get anywhere central.
The shower, as is always a very important part of the hotel stay, was amazing, and I got very comfy in the fluffy white dressing gown and complimentary slippers. We decided to go out for dinner and headed to Covent Garden on the tube – going via Charing Cross it only took about 15 minutes. Shopping tomorrow in Oxford Street would be equally easy to get to.
After stuffing our faces with ribs and having a few Friday night drinks, we headed back to the hotel and straight to the lounge bar. It was a great atmosphere and with waiter service we felt very special. We sampled a few of the drinks on the menu and they were great. For a hotel the prices were not too bad either. Compared to some of the heaving pubs near the tube, this was a nice relaxing atmosphere but with some music thrown in it was far from dull.
After that we headed up to our room and fell asleep. The room was extremely comfy and incredibly quiet. Normally you hear lots of guests traipsing past your room. After a lovely sleep we woke up and headed down to our continental breakfast. There was a choice between cereals, fruits, cold meats and cheese, as well as some hot food including bacon, scrambled eggs and sausages… YUM! I had about five helpings as it was a buffet – perfect for a day out in London. After that we headed back to our room, packed up and got ready for our 12pm check-out.
I would definitely reccomend this hotel and would gladly stay again. Great for a central stay in London and easy access to tubes, buses and even Madame Tussauds. You can also leave luggage after check-out so perfect to go off and explore without the hassle of baggage. I will certainly be choosing smaller hotels in future too – bigger rooms!!
