The infamous arm gesture that X-Factor judge Tulisa makes could soon be banned, after Ofcom confirmed they are investigating complaints against it. Every week, Tulisa lifts up her forearm to reveal a tattoo reading ‘The Female Boss’, but has now been criticised for plugging her recently released fragrance of the same name.
‘The Female Boss’ was launched in stores just last month, causing some viewers to complain that the star is advertising the perfume by revealing her tattoo in the opening moments. If Ofcom reach a decision that Tulisa is indeed breaking the rules over the promotion and reference to commercial products, she will be unable to make the gesture in future live shows.

X-Factor is of course no stranger to Ofcom investigations. Last year Dermot O’Leary was in trouble for also breaching product placement rules, when encouraging viewers to download the singles of guest acts. There are also talks whether or not to launch a separate investigation into Rihanna’s choice of footwear on last Sunday night’s result show. The usually raunchy star covered up this time, but had some choice expletives emblazoned on her creepers.
Un-surprisingly, this doesn’t mean we will stop watching the show, particularly as the competition is drawing closer to the end. We just hope that if Tulisa’s arm gesture is banned, we still get a good look at her outfit each night!
