NYFW may be over and the excitement has shifted a lot closer to home to welcome in LFW, but we have already started to formulate an idea about what our wardrobes will look like next winter. Edun’s AW12-13 offering, entitled ‘Safari Punk’ was an earthy, rich and eclectic exploration of the global influence of the label. Designer Sharon Wauchob has been at the helm of Edun since its creation, when Bono and his wife Ali Hewson set up the label in 2005 to promote business and manufacturing in Africa.
Marrying the African roots of the brand with an edgy and urban appeal, Wauchob featured rich prints of safari animals on twisted silk dresses and electric blue leopard printed jersey. Additionally, an eighties influence was felt in the slouchy leathers, plaids and mesh and the chunky handcrafted knits. Edun created a fresh spin on modern bohemia and the fusion of prints and textures made for an intriguing collection.
Most triumphant were the cosy outerwear pieces that mixed plaid, leather, flannel and laminated wools. Loose and boxy for comfortable layering, the coats had high collars and were belted to create a more refined and ladylike shape.
