You have the dress, a pair of killer heels and have dusted off the fake tan bottle from the back of the beauty cupboard just in case… but what about your hair? The wrong ‘do’ can ruin an entire look, so make sure you don’t put a foot wrong with our NYE hair guide. Just take inspiration from seasoned red carpet pros- the A list – and get ready to wow on Dec 31st.
The Top Knot
The perfect NYE topknot should be big, shiny and neat, just like Reese Witherspoon’s. This ‘do’ works particularly well with a statement maxi dress or heavily embellished gown, the icing on the cake if you must. Day old hair works better as this hairstyle needs to be a fly-away free zone. Our top tip: pack some additional bobby pins in your clutch bag, just in case!
The Side Sweep
Oozing old-school Hollywood glamour and sophistication make like our style icon of the year Rosie Huntington-Whiteley with a wavy side sweep. Large sections of hair should be tonged into waves and then loosely brushed out when the entire head is complete. Tuck one section behind one ear, secure with hair pins and some light hairspray. Red lipstick is a must with this look!
Full Fringe
Girls who have a fringe and aren’t entirely sure how to style it for NYE, take inspiration from Nicole Richie. Keep your fringe the main focus and sweep the rest of your hair into a tight bun at the nape of your neck. The fringe should be full, yet flowy; chic yet tousled.
The Slick Pony
For those lucky enough to have masses of long, thick hair, why not sweep your hair up into a chic, slick ponytail? This style works especially well with a long dress, or a dress with an embellished neckline detailing. It is important hair is straightened for maximum swish. You can use the smallest amount of gel to keep hair in place and use a thick band to secure the pony for a night of dancing!
The Quiff Sweep
Amanda Heard is fast becoming our hair icon with her bombshell look and mass of voluminous bright blonde hair. To best show off the ultimate NYE blowdry, why not brush to one side and flip over a centre parting to create a side quiff sweep. The resulting look is fresh and oh-so-glamorous. Just use hairspray at the top and pick out some killer drop earrings a la Miss Heard.
