New York Fashion Week Update

Updated Thursday 15th September

It was Michael Kors’ turn to impress the fashion pack yesterday.

The collection has received mixed reviews after the African safari theme left many a little disappointed.

Showing off a range of animal prints, khaki and messenger bags the show did not seem to disappoint the A-listers in the front row.

Rosie Huntington-Whitely, Michael Douglas and Zoe Saldana all turned up to ‘be seen’ at the designers latest show. If you’re heading to Africa next year then this is the collection for you – that’s all we’ll say!

Proenza Schouler carried on the African theme. Did everyone go on safari for their inspiration this year?

There was something a little different through with integrated floral embroidery and various prints. Tailored shorts, block panels, stripes and earthy tones shows us what we’ll be going for next season.

Wednesday 14th September

NYFW has been the talk of the town for the last week. From the big name celebrities making appearances (more on this later) to big name designers showing their latest collections.

Oscar de la Renta wowed his audience of A-listers yesterday with and blast of showstopping bold and brights. It was parachute skirts and evening pieces along with canary yellow seen yet again that was gliding down the runway, as well as deep greens and reds.

Everything was big, from the skirts to the hair, it was all about the drama. Despite the dramatics there was some calm, with a wealth of the white dresses, plenty of lace and applique. The celebs and audience did not seem disappointed with one of the biggest names in fashion’s offerings for 2012.

Rodarte also set the catwalk alight with a contrast to the usual dark theme. As everyone was expecting a bit of horror from the cool young Mulleavy sisters, they gave us a shock.

With a floral aesthetic and lots of use of Van Gogh sunflowers, yellow and aqua, the show was full of day dresses perfect for a lazy afternoon. They showed off a softer side to the trendy label.

When it came to Marchesa it was a show full of fantasy. With fishtails, feathers and lots of applique it was all about the glamour. With tulle gowns and coral like sequins it certainly was an under the sea theme and the designers noted their nautical inspiration.
