New York Fashion week is in full swing and we have already seen enough to start formulating what we would like our A/W wardrobes to look like in 2012/13. We are already starting to get excited about the upcoming 2012/13 trends and you can see why!
One of the collections that really stood out was Band of Outsiders’ offering.
Creative director and designer Scott Sternberg turned the catwalk into a vision of the wild west; complete with a canyon backdrop and prairie girls draped in whimsical garments. The collections were shown in succession: Band (the men’s line) followed by the two women’s lines: Girl and Boy.
The Girl portion was decidedly sweeter than the latter Boy, rose printed flowing dresses that fell off the body easily (we could definitely see Florence Welch wearing some of these) and oversized knitwear. These dresses gave way to more dresses in darker hues; albeit still covered in feminine ditzy prints and shaggy faux fur outerwear added real depth.
The colour palette in the Boy collection moved in much the same way, moving from light and bright to dark. The opening dresses were light and wholesome and there were mannish separates in the form of oversized blazers and silky suit pants. We especially loved the ombre check dresses, worn under a duster coat or teamed with a faux fur stole. It was the final black dresses; however, that made a lasting impression. Subtly sexy; they were transformed into garments with an everyday sensibility teamed with a long overcoat, flat knee high riding boots and a glossy faux fur gilet.
