Monday was the last, but by no means the least, anticipated day on the MFW calander. Both Giorgio Armani and Roberto Cavalli showed their S/S12 collections as well as fresh and funky label DSquared2.
The early spot for DSquared2 certainly tied in with their dishevelled Glastonbury-inspired theme. The models stomped down the muddy catwalk in checks, fringing, fur and denim. A look that screamed early morning festival hangover, the models made us want summer all over again as they walked, beer in hand and muddy wellies on.
Giorgio Armani presented something entirely different to the press and his fans. Inspired by the sea, everything was iridescent and pearlised. From silky trousers and slouchy blazers, the fabrics flowed like water. Dresses had shell shaped bodices or were printed with black stripes on metallic turquoise fabric. The aquatic aesthetic was at once refreshing and beautiful.
If Armani was understated in the underwater approach to feminine glamour, then the Roberto Cavalli show was a full on dazzling affair. The show opened with the models dripping in gold sparkle, including the 20s inspired flapper dresses similar to Gucci earlier. Gold dresses gave way to sequined black drop waist dresses and finally a touch of tropicana as bright yellows and blues lit up the catwalk.
