Milan Fashion Week

We barely had time to catch our breath after LFW and already Milan Fashion Week has commenced. Opening with the always highly-anticipated Gucci show, and followed by some of the most respected names in fashion (Alberta Ferretti, MaxMara and Fendi to name a few) Milan fashion week has us in awe all over again.

Frida Giannini, the mastermind behind the Gucci woman, certainly created structured and slick feminine glamour in her new collection. Plenty of jewel tones, monochrome and a dash of glitter, gave the show a very art deco feel. As to be expected from Gucci, the presentation was polished and glossy, echoing all the elegance of the roaring twenties with a slick modern edge.

Thursday morning, Milan awoke to sunshine and the desert colours of the new MaxMara collection. Adopting a sporty aesthetic (which seems to be quite the trend from S/S 2012) the models walked in simple coats, capri pants and skirts resting just above the knee. The sandy, tan, cream and turquoise tones worked well without added adornments and gave the collection a fresh youthful feel.

The Fendi show embraced a ’60s aesthetic, with a sensible skirts, aprons and cotton dresses. Karl Lagerfeld’s love of monochrome was certainly embraced as the models walked in a predominantly black and white collection that had a much softer feel to it than previous Fendi shows. The dresses towards the end were most definitely the highlight; black chiffon was embellished with sparkling beads and swirled leather adornments.
