Alexander McQueen was honoured last night in New York at the Met Ball – one of the most important evenings in fashion.

The ball, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, was to celebrate the opening of the McQueen Savage Beauty exhibition.

Long time friend of McQueen, Sarah Jessica Parker was one of those to stand out on the red carpet, paying tribute in a stunning McQueen beaded gown. Sarah Burton – the woman of the moment, also stood out in one of her own creations.

Gisele undoubtedly stole the limelight while paying her respects to the late designer in her red McQueen gown.

Karl Lagerfield arrived with new muse and now red head Blake Lively, who was draped in Chanel and others followed suit, arriving with their beloved designers. Rosie Huntington-Whitely was escorted by Christopher Bailey and Ashley Olsen arrived with Christian Louboutin.

Some of the stars turned to other designers for dresses on the important evening including a toned Beyonce, accompanied by husband Jay Z, looked stunning in Emilio Pucci. Many celebs of the film world opted for Stella McCartney, including Demi Moore, Chloe Sevigny, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Hudson. With Jessica Alba choosing Ralph Lauren and Diane Kruger going for Jason Wu.
