Day 5 marked the end of London Fashion Week (well…apart from the menswear). It was another brilliant day.
A truly breathtaking collection was shown to a captivated audience first thing by Mary Katrantzou. A 26-piece collection walked the run way, each print more intricate that the last.
Mary’s spring summer offering appeared far more grown up than her last, the dresses less 3D, yet still telling a beautiful story through the prints.
The show opened with a stunning set of dresses; muted brights with multi coloured trains. The colours then became stronger and the prints more reminiscent of her earlier collections. Trouser suits and puff ball dresses followed, Katrantzou created a fairytale with her magical, inspiring collection.
The models wore bright coloured lipstick which only complimented the beautiful garments. The final look was an embellished asymmetrical dress, that when the model started to walk you heard a tiny gasp from the front row. Katrantzou has created another fashion masterpiece that has left the industry anticipating what’s still to come.
Amanda Wakeley showed her SS12 collection. Sport chic and elegant cuts glided down the runway. Loose fitting cuts and fabrics with plenty of movement showed off the typical Wakeley look and the yellows and blues at the end added a dash of colour.
Meadham Kirchhoff brought the fun back to the catwalk towards the end of the day. Through the wacky pantomime theme, big hair and bursts of colour were some amazing pieces. Everything was exaggerated and dramatic and yet the brocade dresses and fabulous tailoring shone through. Best bit: the ballerinas twirling down the catwalk.
Later in the day David Koma showed a collection of lights and whites – well at least to begin with. A splash of colour was soon added and a strong Aztec look created.
Now all the fashionistas are off to Milan where it starts all over again!
