Some of the newest UK design talent took to the catwalk at One Marylebone last week for the 10th anniversary of the Profile fashion show. 20 emerging designers in menswear and womenswear, as well as accessories showed off their latest S/S 2012 collections to an impressive array of press and buyers from ASOS, Topshop, Debenhams and the House of Fraser.
In a collection that will surely get some mixed reactions, reality TV star Lauren Goodger of TOWIE fame launched her first ‘Lauren’s Way’ range of red carpet dresses. The collection was entirely pink, nailing Essex glam on the head with a Grecian twist. Of her designs, Lauren noted, “was inspired by Grecian looks so you’ll see one shoulder designs and toga style pieces. I wanted to design a range that will get girls compliments.”
Lauren turned up at the event wearing a rather pretty white pleated maxi dress with a monochromatic pattern printed over the top half, in a bid to impress both trades people and consumers present. A pop up ‘Lauren’s way’ shop was set up; selling her clothing and beauty products. Free massages at treatments were also available as well as cupcakes made by Pakes. Sounds like utter bliss to us!
Press, VIP and potential buyers were then invited to see the collections up close on the catwalk. Other designers included Kelly Love, Rebecca Torres and Simon Wang. The soft feminine fabrics and precise tailoring really impressed as did the impactful colour blocking of Rebecca Torres designs (which are already being sold through ASOS.) Finally, Simon Wang’s contemporary collection stood out, deftly accessorised by jewellery designer Marina Prokopiva.
