iFashion Online Editor, Debbie Attwood, paid a visit to London’s coldest drinking hub last week, Ice Bar London. Here, she tells iFashion about her first experience drinking in an igloo…
I had the pleasure visiting Icebar London last week. I don’t know what I was expecting, other than cold, but it was a little different.
I took R along with me, who seemed a little bit obsessed with the concept and had been reading about it all day.
We started off in the Rudolf Lounge, sipping drinks eagerly awaiting our 40-minute time slot (you are only allowed in for 40 minute at a time) for the Icebar, which is kept at -5 degrees all year round.
Finally we were ushered up the stairs and into the queue for the icy experience. As we approached the door we could see others having cloaks put on. The two men were throwing them onto their customers in such haste I had to worry about my top knot getting ruined and the size of my head making me the only one to get stuck in one of these blue coats.
‘Don’t worry’, R said reassuringly, ‘your head is long, not wide, you’ll be fine’. That of course made me feel much better!
Anyway with the cloak drama out the way we made our way into the chilly climate, where everything really was made of ice! Right down to the seats, the bar and even the glasses – not that you can really call them glasses.
Luckily there were a pair of gloves attached to our cloaks to hold our icicle drinks. I had a Cosmo and R had something else vodka-based. The place was a little smaller than I expected but I suppose it’s hard to keep a massive room completely frozen.
It was a great experience and it would be even better to have a party there with just your friends as it became quite packed in with strangers. We lasted just under 40 minutes and as we stepped outside London suddenly seemed very warm!
R’s first question of course was when we would be visiting the IceHotel!!
