This winter, no discerning fashionista’s new season wardrobe should be without at least a one hat. Slouchy beanies, trilbies, caps and cloches are all on trend, meaning there is a fit and shape to suit every outfit and personality.
Harping back to the ’40s ’60s and ’70s, headwear was big on the runway, with Gucci championing the wide brimmed fedora in predictably chic and polished fashion. Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs topped off the ’40s trend with chin strapped pillbox caps while Burberry brought the beret back.
Our favourite and undoubtedly cosiest hats were of course the beanies as seen on the Missoni catwalk and the furry offerings from Moschino Cheap & Chic, winning points for practicality. Of course, those who expect headwear to make a big statement, look to John Rocha’s flamboyant pieces or Galliano’s creations, from feathers to sequin berets nothing will make a more theatrical entrance.
Hats are an easy way to try out a new trend, especially if working a look head to toe seems more fancy dress than fashion. We have picked out our five favourite head warmers to help ease us into the cold winter days ahead.
