Bold beauty
The high pony is well and truly back on the fashion radar. A great hairstyle for hotter weather, day old locks work best for this slick look. Nicole Farhi models embraced the sleek, modern hairstyle and makeup was kept punchy with bright red lips and minimal eyes. Our favourite look for the new season, this is a must-try.
Softly swept
Freshly washed hair has long been a beauty pain, but for SS it is the perfect look. Bouncy, soft and shiny hair was a key look at the Peter Som NYFW show. The best way to achieve this look is to let hair dry naturally and then brush out for added bounce! Those with straight locks, use large tongs to wave bigger sections of hair, let it cool, then use a paddle brush to separate. In keeping with the ‘freshly washed’ theme, make-up should be barely there; a sweep of peach on the cheeks and a dash of brown mascara.
Beachy Head
Surf style is hot for SS – think neoprene fabrics, silhouette hugging shapes and neon accents. Givenchy SS12 was heavily influenced by surf style culture; relaxed wavy hair, dewy makeup and a carefree attitude were beauty musts. We favour this look for spring because it is so damn easy to re-create. Tinted moisturiser, a sweep of bronzer and balmy lips are the way to go. Hair should be worn in relaxed waves. To update this look for nighttime, cut a large sequin in half and stick it on the centre of the upper eyelid, close to lash line. The other half of the sequin should be placed directly underneath on the lower lash line. Vaseline should do the trick to help the sequins stick! If not you could try making your own demi circles with glitter liner.
Heavy Smoke
Spring doesn’t necessarily mean you have to pack away your charcoal eye make-up. Take cues from the Versace SS12 couture show and incorporate a heavy smoky eye into your evening looks. The rest of the makeup should be kept pale and interesting; eyebrows should be lightly defined and lips kept bare or coloured with a nude lipstick. For eyes this dramatic, hair looks best swept off the face. We would rock this look with pastels, greys or bright punchy lime green.
