Are you ready Belfast? As the EMAs (European Music Awards) get geared up to take Ireland by storm, we take a look at the best EMA Award show outfits since its humble beginnings.
Back in 1999, Britney Spears was the big winner on the night, taking home no less than four awards! She stole the pop princess crown and her ‘butter wouldn’t melt’ outfit choice most certainly suited. We can’t fault the iconic ’90s boob tube dress, but the pink shawl and corkscrew curls are perhaps not her greatest style achievements. In 2000, Kylie Minogue made headlines with her daring thigh high split silver knit Julian Macdonald dress. We don’t know if many could pull this off, but Kylie certainly did!
A recurring colour scheme, silver, has made its appearance several times on the EMA carpet. In 2003, Beyoncé shimmered in a shredded silver mini dress, opening the show with a rendition of her then mega hit ‘Baby Boy.’ Rihanna made her EMA debut three years later in another silver mini, looking every inch a pop superstar.
With the ’90s well and truly behind us, the 2008 EMAs showed the stars starting to pick up their fashion game. All eyes were on Katy Perry, who wore a quirky cartoon eye bustier dress on the red carpet, before proceeding to make 10 more outfit changes on the night! She has possibly been one of the most famous and well-rememberd hosts to date – we wonder if Selena Gomez will be able to change all that this year?
The 2010 EMAs did not disappoint with a mix of fashion triumphs and faux pas. Rihanna literally walked on a cloud in a stunning white ruffle gown by Marchesa, while Shakira looked sexy in a metallic medley of bronze, silver and gold low cut mini dress.
This year, the spectacular event will wow audiences the world over, from the Odyssey Arena in Belfast. With Selena Gomez as the new host we can’t wait to see what the rising fashionista wears! Don’t forget to watch the event live on November 6th at 9pm. Tune in or miss out!
