It’s been a long month of fashion and perhaps one of the most exciting seasons we have ever witnessed. While we have enjoyed seeing every designer’s unique take on S/S 2012, we have narrowed down our five favourite shows:
5. VALENTINO
Romance isn’t dead, if the Valentino show was anything to go by. Models walked in a dreamy array of lace, chiffon and buttery leathers. From stunning floor-length gowns to full skirted princess dresses, Valentino captured our hearts and called to mind an all-encompassing springtime romance.
4. PHILIP LIM
Lim paid homage to his childhood love of kites, sending models down the runway in billowing silks and minimalist silhouettes. Also referencing the new sportswear trend, the collection settled into the tricky niche between casual and professional attire. Ticking more than one trend box, the colour palette was also a sumptuous display of sorbet shades.
3. GUCCI
If Frida Giannini’s latest collection for Gucci is anything to go by, we will all be sartorially referencing the 1920s era next S/S. From drop waist dresses to fringed gold and black cocktail dresses – the decade’s decadence has never looked so chic. We particularly loved all the embellishment and beading.
2. CHANEL
Karl Lagerfeld can do no wrong in our eyes, and the latest sea inspired Chanel collection was at once mystical, inspiring and beautiful. From pearls adorning the models wet look hair, to shimmering sequins evocative of fish scales, this was a true underwater fairy-tale.
1. CHRISTOPHER KANE
The show that reportedly moved some audience member to tears, LFW was once again enthralled by the talent of Christopher Kane. The collection offered something not yet seen, rich in embellishment yet modern and clean. Kane taught us applique is no longer only for Grandma, organza needs to be utilised more and embellishment is still the most beautiful way to make a statement. For us, Kane is without a doubt the Fashion Week King.
