Not only is the internet brimming with bloggers, fashionable boutiques and style guides, but more and more fashion films are being made. Apart from obviously displaying the genius work of the world’s top designers, the fashion film is somewhat of a multi-sensory masterpiece utilising atmospheric music and fairy-tale esque locations to illustrate a short narrative sequence.
As part of iFashion’s 2012 features, we want to bring you a weekly ‘must see’ fashion film. This week, we bring you the Mercedes-Benz fashion film starring Lara Stone. As the official sponsor of New York fashion week, this year Mercedes-Benz have released a short film in the run-up to February 9th, combining designer fashion with designer wheels.
Both the Dutch supermodel and the iconic SL roadster are the protagonists of the film for Fall/Winter 2012, which takes an old-school Hollywood glamour approach to the visual motif. While the car itself is pretty luxurious (all smooth leather and shiny alloys) it is of course the gorgeous Lara that we can’t keep our eyes off.
The Alfred Hitchcock cinematic style meets Wizard of Oz fantasy sees Lara step out of a Mercedes Benz SL roadster which is located in a beautiful, yet austere landscape. Heading to the boot, she removes two pieces of luggage before being swept up in a mini hurricane. Of course, this being a fashion film, Lara’s hair doesn’t tangle and her beautiful black Calvin Klein dress and tailored blazer remains crease-free.
Being suited and booted in Calvin Klein for the film was no coincidence. Stone is currently the face of the brand and the classical elegance sits well with the old Hollywood theme. The music is evocative, sensing impending doom till the tragic conclusion, which we won’t reveal and will leave you to watch above!
