DVF launching GAP Kids Range

Diane von Furstenberg is launching a children’s wear collection for Gap Kids.

The fashion designer and grandmother-of-three will create her first ever clothes for youngsters with the capsule collection for the US brand.

The collection will include products for babies and girls, ranging from ages two to 14, which will hit stores in 30 countries in March 2012.

Art Peck, president of Gap brand North America, described the designs as “an exciting collection that applies her signature approach to print, optimistic colour and femininity, mixed with our expertise in great quality premium children’s clothing at accessible prices”.

Diane – who runs the DVF brand – is famed for creating the iconic wrap dress in the 1970s and for starting the French publishing house Salvy as well has having her own line of cosmetics and a home-shopping business, which she started in 1991.

The news of the collection sees the designer follow in the footsteps of Stella McCartney who also produced a children’s collection for Gap, which was such a big hit is helped her launch her own range of children’s clothes under her own brand.

This week Diane also co-hosted the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) awards – which saw Lady Gaga appear in a very revealing dress as well as release a new fragrance, ‘Diane’, her first new scent in eight years.
