It’s no surprise that fashion has well and truly gone digital and there is no turning back. Many moons ago, we relied on glossy mags to tell us what we should be wearing next season. Now, with the global expansion of the internet, fashion is quite literally at our fingertips. Live streaming enables us to see the major fashion week shows as they happen and web-based media (such as iFashion) can publish trend reports and reviews almost immediately. Fashion is accessible to almost anyone with a slight interest and even editors get a helping hand forecasting what is hot, with the likes of marketing statistics and social media insight.
EDITD, the fashion data provider, has just published its annual fashion week round up report of 10 key insights into next season, collected via the analysis of more than 25 million tweets and blog posts. That’s a lot of fashion aware and opinionated people! The Burberry show became one of the most talked about, after their successful digital marketing strategy which included a ‘tweetwalk’ where the show was streamed live and was available for purchase online after the finale.
According to the report, the top three designers were Chanel, Marc Jacobs and Prada who impressed the fashion press and public the most. For trends, expect retro to bigger than ever next season with vintage styles from the ’20s,’60s and ’70s ruling the runway. Feminine styles shouldn’t be too far behind as S/S 2012 reworks the ladylike trend for hazy summer days. Finally, oversized silhouettes became the third most popular. Look to the likes of Acne to see how to take on this style successfully.
Following on from style, the key prints next season include florals, stripes and checks. Florals in particular featured in 107 collections across all four capitals. That is some serious flower power. The colour palette for next season varied differently from each city, but the main hues that were seen world over were; mid blues, strong reds and mustard yellows and citrus shades. Greys also featured heavily as did pastels, particularly in London. Never before have we been more confident about what to buy for next season.
