Are you a decade dresser? Do you love looking back and dressing in the style of a particular era? We all do it at some point without even realising it but sometimes it’s time to get more decade specific.
We have picked two of our favourite decades and some of the best tips and tricks to get the look.
We’ll start with the ’40s. Vintage dressing is very much in fashion and much of what can be found hails back to the ’40s. Stars like Rihanna and Camilla Belle have been giving a nod to the era by sporting ’40s hairstyles and dresses. As the AW11 season starts double-breasted jackets make the perfect ’40s look without going too over the top. Mid length skirts have made a massive comeback this season and those that are slightly higher waisted give you the perfect silhouette.
Faux fur will be another massive trend or AW11, a great ’40s style, slung over your shoulder or wrapped round your neck. Tied high-neck collars, black and white combinations and long skirts are a great way to do modern ’40s. Pair with some curled hair and you will have the perfect ’40s style.
We suggest having a rummage around in vintage and charity shops to get a true ’40s look but there are high street options too.
Here are some styles we like:
When it comes to the ’60s it’s all about colour, flower power and the shift dress. Perfect for a party and for brightening up your day, the best thing is you can now show off some leg with the mini skirt!
Starts such as Fearne Cotton, Cheryl Cole and Olivia Palermo are often seen sporting the shift dress. It never really went out of style. With all the festivals this summer is has been hard to get away from the ’60s bohemian style. Floral print everywear and daisies in the hair is all decade dressing and of course the cropped hair. Can anyone say Twiggy?
