The much publicised catwalk clash that would mean LFW would have to reduce its 2012 schedule is seemingly resolved. The Camera Nazionale della Moda, the board in control of Milan Fashion Week, has now accepted a proposal put forward by CFDA president Diane Von Furstenburg to sort out the date hiccup due to Labour Day in America.
Under the new guidelines, NYFW will start on the second Thursday of September as normal, but would drop its last day in order for London to have the full allocated time slot for shows. Although all parties have yet to agree, the new proposal means NY would kick off show season on Sept 6th, followed by London September on 14th. Milan would keep its dates of 19th-25th and then Paris would follow. Under this new plan, fashion month would always kick off on the second Thursday of February and September every year.
However, like many things in life, the resolution is not altogether that simple. The Fédération Française de la Mode still need to agree with the schedule, which would see PFW starting on Oct 2nd 2013 and Oct 1st in 2014, later than it currently starts. Also, New York’s last day in 2013 needs to be September 18th and September 17th in 2014, in order for London to gain an additional day for the presentation on the menswear collections.
We are sure reading all this has brought on a serious numbers-induced headache. All we can hope for is that the dispute is settled once and for all soon!
