We live in a virtual world with an abundance of social networking sites, so it is no surprise that luxury fashion brands can measure their popularity via social network activity. Burberry is officially the most popular luxury fashion brand on Facebook and Twiter, with 10 million fans and 701,617 followers. Christopher Bailey noted his appreciation by posting a message earlier this week on Facebook, thanking the 10million fans.
Victoria’s Secret, the underwear label is the only brand to trump Burberry, with a huge 16,392,731 fans. Just behind Burberry is H&M, famed for their affordable collaborations with top designers. Dior, Gucci, Chanel and Lois Vuitton also have strong virtual followings. Burberry needn’t worry about being over-taken just yet though. Last October they were awarded the most Digitally Competent Luxury Brand by New York University think tank LuxuryLab. Burberry has propelled its fan count by clever marketing initiatives, such as offering fans free samples of its latest fragrance if they simply ‘liked’ Burberry on Facebook.
