BOUTIQUE OF THE WEEK: ASOS

Perhaps the most successful online shopping destination in the UK, ASOS.com has gone from strength to strength, making it a reputable force in the virtual shopping world. It would be silly to compile a Boutique of the Week catalogue without giving due credit to the multi-brand website, that has become a hugely influential force in the fast fashion world and is now a recognisable household name.

ASOS launched back in 2000, as a relatively small, celebrity inspired ‘get the look’ website. Fast forward 11 years and it has become an internet phenomenon, stocking more than 50,000 brands and an exclusive line. From indie and niche designers, to big name brands and the directional ASOS label; it is a no-brainer ‘go-to’ fashion supermarket, offering literally thousands of options for fashion hungry men and women. The website has become more sophisticated over the years, paying close attention to high-end fashion and unique pieces catering to every budget. Recently, a social shopping platform has been launched, ASOS Marketplace, in which small sellers can list vintage and boutique clothing lines for a wider market to purchase (a bit like eBay).

The Times praised ASOS as “the undisputed champion of online fashion,” a statement that couldn’t be more apt. The website releases a successful free magazine under the same name every month; complete with trend guides, hot products and insightful features. ASOS even has its own community, a sort of virtual shopping platform, in which members can create looks to share and offer style advice. Quite simply it has surpassed a simple shopping website and become a microcosmic society of fashion lovers and trendsetters alike.

Needless to say, a virtual shop is only as good as how the products and services stand up in the real world. Again, ASOS does not disappoint. Delivery is efficient, with an easy returns policy and a huge customer service team. The clothing nearly always lives up to expectation and there are countless styles/options available. We could spend hours browsing and compiling a mammoth list of desirable items, but for now we will leave you with just a few of our favourite new products!

We love the River Island printed maxi dress, that we spied a few weeks earlier on X-Factor contestant Janet Devlin. Also on our wishlist is the ASOS Tuxedo dress that is versatile enough to be styled a number of ways; as a dress, left open, or worn over a crisp buttoned up blouse. Keep warm in the Whistles Romona cape and team with some on-trend metallic-sheen jeans. For the best selection of show-stopping NYE dresses, ASOS should be your first port of call. We adore the Lipsy one shoulder sequin dress and the Aqua flapper fringed maxi! Phew, roll on pay-day!
