Founded in 2008 by Stefan Siegel and his brother Daniel, NOT JUST A LABEL (NJAL) has quickly become the leading platform for showcasing emerging contemporary designer collections. The website helps young designers gain exposure and fund their ongoing progression via the online shop. Now, NJAL has more than 6,500 desingers on board and the number is continually growing.
The online store opened in 2009 with a clever and unique concept, appealing to young designers. By selling directly from the studios, through the free-of-cost web platform, the pioneers of tomorrow’s fashion world cut out expensises incurred by middlemen. NJAL has given many establishing desgingners with ingenious creations an opportuinity to sell their pieces to a worldwide market. As NJAL aims to be a free and democratic platform, any aspiring designer can sign up. The team also visit most fashion weeks and graduate shows to scout for new talent. This is a great way for the new desginers to generate some media interest, as NJAL liases between the up and coming talent and the press.
You can find some exceptional pieces on NJAL. The entire aesthetic is contemporary and cutting edge, providing the very best in forward thinking fashion which is one-of-a-kind. We could spend hours trawling the website (and trust us, we have done exactly that) picking out a whole host of avante-garde pieces that could make a real statement in a bland wardrobe. A small selection of the garments we love include the contrast silk tee by Christopher Waller, the beautifully constructed silk organza mini dress by Elkia Designs and the hankerchief cut zuma skirt by Kamola. The tan harem all in one by Eaburns is the perfect date outfit; with a deep cut back it is both sexy and effortless. Our favourite piece, however, is the nocturnal morticia dress by Katrina Ferrari. Draping along the floor in a black pool, with intricate ruching detail down the front- it is an absolute showstopper.
