Blogger Style – Rosie Glow

iFashion this week had a chat with the lovely, enthusiastic and fashion-obsessed Rosie Blake, author of Rosie-glow.blogspot.com. Her eclectic and colourful outfits are always injected with a tonne of personality, so it is fair to say we are utterly hooked on her style blog! Rosie hopes to kick start her career in fashion once she graduate, so we found out more about her aspirations, views on blogging and why fashion plays such an important role in her daily life!

What inspired you to start Rosie Glow?
I’ve always loved fashion, and often thought about pursuing fashion journalism after uni, even though I am studying music as a singer. Last year, I found out I had problems with my voice that required surgery and stopped me from being able to sing. I’d read fashion blogs a lot and always thought about starting one myself, but in the time I spent recovering from my operations and resting my voice, I actually took the time to start RosieGlow. Now I’m so glad I did!

How would you describe your signature style?
Hmm, I’m sure as a fashion blogger I should probably have a set answer to this, but I really don’t! I like to mix it up with my style, and generally dress however I fancy from day to day. I guess the overall feel of my outfits is quite eclectic and bohemian and always vintage-inspired! I tend to give most of my outfits a slightly grungy edge, whether I mean to or not!

What is the greatest reward that blogging has brought you?
Blogging has really been fantastic for me. It sounds cheesy, but the main thing I appreciate about it is that it’s given me a new direction and new career aspirations. I had always thought I was going to pursue singing as a career, so finding out I couldn’t was very hard, and finding something else that I love has been invaluable. I now know that I want a career in fashion, and my blog is already helping me in that direction; I have just got an internship in social media for a fashion company thanks to my blogging! Oh and the free clothes and invites to fashion events are obviously pretty great too!

Do you think blogging has any negatives?
I think it’s quite easy to get caught up in it, worrying about your blog not being good enough or big enough and generally getting a bit obsessive over it! I’m also not convinced it’s great to spend quite so much time looking at pictures of yourself or worrying how you look, but I try and not stress over that as much as I can. It also takes up a lot of time but luckily I love it enough not to mind, even though I’m pretty sure I spend more time blogging than doing my Uni work these days, whoops!

Who is your favourite fashion blogger and why?
My Favourite blogger is Audrey from Be Frassy. I just love her style so much – she is adventurous and fearless and really inspires me to push the boundaries of my wardrobe and embrace things like colour and pattern in a bolder way. I also love her writing style, how she is all about fashion but still keeps it personal and interesting.

If you had 10 minutes to get ready for a blogger meet up, what would you put together?
This season, probably some coloured skinny jeans, wedge-heeled boots, a patterned top, leather jacket and bowler hat! Casual, but it would still stand-out.

iFashion is all about shopping online. What are your favourite online boutiques?
I love love LOVE online shopping! Obviously the big e-tailers are great – like ASOS, Boohoo and Missguided – but I really love finding smaller boutiques and designers. I absolutely adore LOVE and Motel for their awesome own-brand collections and I’d recommend Own the Runway, Fast Fashion, PopCouture and Frank and Doll for a great selection of branded items.

What is the most loved item in your wardrobe and why?
Right now, it’s got to be my studded leather jacket from Goldie. I can throw it on with anything to instantly make an outfit look awesome and like I’ve put in a lot more effort to getting dressed than I actually have! My most-worn item is probably my bowler hat, as I love wearing a hat to give outfits something a little bit extra.

What S/S trends are you most looking forward to wearing?
Definitely pastels!! I never would have thought I’d say that, as usually I try and avoid any colours that are too-girly for fear they’ll make me look like a Barbie doll with my blonde hair, but I just can’t get enough of the gorgeous spring pastel colours that are everywhere this season! I’ve already invested in some candy denim, and I’m hoping for much more before the season is out!

Finally, what do you hope to go on to do when you graduate?
I definitely am hoping to move to London and work in fashion. I don’t know what area I want to specialise in, but in an ideal world I’ll experiment in all sorts! I’m working part time in social media at the moment, which is an area I love, and I hope to get some more internships with either fashion brands or magazines to work in fashion journalism, PR or social media. Hopefully if my blog continues to grow I will be able to keep working on that too, and maybe work freelance in all sorts of fashion blogging, etc. As you can probably tell, I’m still keeping my options open, but I just can’t wait to get my own flat and fill my life with fashion!
