For the very first blogger style of 2012 we are bringing you the delightful Jo Fletcher who blogs at Lostinthehaze.com. Living in New Zealand and helped by her boyfriend Barnaby (who takes the snaps) Jo blogs about her loves of bygone eras, vintage pieces and her gentle ethereal style. Favouring a feminine look, we have fallen in love with her style and the beautiful imagery on her site. We had a chat with Jo all about her love of a good Peter Pan collar and bowler hat!
What inspired you to start Lost in the Haze?
My boyfriend/photographer Barnaby actually inspired me to do it! I have been an avid blog reader for many years, and finally in February 2011, he suggested that we should create our own! We both love going on forest walks, and experiencing the amazing New Zealand landscape, so we wanted somewhere we could share it with like-minded people. Plus, it gives me another excuse to buy more vintage clothing!
How would you describe your signature style?
Very inspired by the 1960s! I love big hair (beehives, anyone?), miniature dresses, opaque tights, and platform shoes. I love finishing off my look with one of my many bowler hats, and the reddest lipstick I can find!
You live in stunning New Zealand. Do you think living in such a beautiful part of the world influences the way you dress?
Ohh, definitely! I actually lived in Brunei (in South-East Asia) until I was 16 – so I really feel that I am able to see New Zealand through a stranger’s eyes! If I am ever feeling uninspired, Barnaby and I will venture to one of my favourite parks, or to the hills which overlook the city. It always leaves me with a fresh outlook, which I’m able to express through my wardrobe!
What are your top tips for sourcing the best vintage clothing?
Always look in the children’s section! I have found incredible pan collared dresses and kooky jumpers many times! One time, I found a pair of lederhosen and truly fell in love. They were sadly too small – and I’ve been after a pair ever since!
Who is your favourite fashion blogger and why?
I couldn’t pick just one – there are so many blogs I truly adore! I am a long-time fan of wishwishwish and Liebemarlene Vintage. More recently, I have completely fallen for Wayward Daughter, Hannah and Landon, A Thought is the Blossom, and a Fine Day for Sailing. All of these bloggers have incredible photographs which always leave me feeling inspired. And they all stay so true to their personal style!
iFashion is all about shopping online. What are your favourite online boutiques?
I love finding small boutiques with beautiful clothing; in particular Nadinoo, and New Zealand designer Kesley Genna. My bank balance doesn’t always allow for such beautiful clothing though, so I often find myself on ASOS and Modcloth; two of my other favourites!
What is your favourite season and which designer do you think best captures it?
I am a bit funny with seasons – Brunei doesn’t actually have any, so even after six years in New Zealand, I find them a bit weird! I am particularly fond of the end of spring though, and the beginning of autumn. I find Summer too hot, and winter too cold, so the in-between seasons are definitely my favourites! I particularly love seeing the blossoms and spring, and the falling leaves in autumn. Nature is so incredible!
Do you think blogging has any negatives?
I haven’t found any yet! I know that it can be quite time consuming; but I truly love everything about it! I have formed wonderful friendships through blogging, and of course I love writing and learning more about photography!
Finally, have you made any New Year’s Resolutions? If so, what?
My biggest resolution is to start running more. I was super keen to begin my resolution on New Year’s Day, but fell out off a swing a week before and injured my back! I’m now not-so patiently waiting to finally start!
