The lovely Jamie Chen has been inspiring us with her blog, The Fancy Teacup, for a while now so we were really excited at the opportunity to interview her. She started blogging, like most passionate fashion bloggers, as an outlet for her creativity and to share her love of fashion and photography with others holding the same interests. Much like her sophisticated, city chic style; her blog is filled with dreamy pictures, poetic writing and glimpses into her idyllic life. Visit Thefancyteacup.blogspot.com
What inspired you to start The Fancy Teacup?
There’s a place in my heart for writing, photography, and fashion combined. Since my profession during the day isn’t so much involved with creativity, my boyfriend encouraged me to start The Fancy Teacup as a means of channelling what inspires me and to evolve my writing and photography skills.
How would you describe your signature style?
A little bit of city chic, darling and demure motifs, and anything that incorporates some colour.
Are you surprised by the response your blog has had thus far?
I am! It is so incredible to me that people enjoying reading what I have to say, admiring what outfits I style together, and the lovely comments that my readers leave.
What do you consider to be the most positive aspect of blogging?
It is the perfect platform to showcase your biggest passions to such an ever growing audience that you would normally not be able to reach on daily basis.
Who is your favourite blogger and why?
I have so many—Atlantic Pacific, Fashion Squad, Park & Cube, Le Blog de Betty, Wish Wish Wish, Style Scrapbook, Fated to Be Hated, Keiko Lynn, Wendy’s Lookbook, Fashion Toast, and so much more. What makes me inspired by certain fashion bloggers is their individuality, and that they are confident in their own sense of style.
What are your favourite online stores and why?
I like high street fashion, because I want to dress up with items that most girls can afford. It makes my style more relatable. The labels I love are Zara, H&M, Asos, Forever 21, Urban Outfitters, and J. Crew.
What are you wearing this A/W?
Anything with burgundy, navy, forest green, mustard yellow or rust orange hues. Cropped sweaters, full skirts, fit & flare dresses, over the knee socks, suede wedges, and anything with faux fur.
Do you think blogging has any negatives?
I don’t find it healthy when I see a lot of girls accumulate debt just to buy the next “it” bag or item. I think girls should be able to purchase what they can actually afford and make the items they get, shine. Also, I think some bloggers focus too much on gaining followers. Gaining followers is important, but it shouldn’t be the reason you are blogging. Girls should blog because they blog about what tugs at their heart strings, and that genuineness will attract followers.
How do you see your blog evolving over the next few years?
I hope to include more of my photography projects on my blog and perhaps expanding the subject matter beyond just outfit posts.
Finally, what is your most treasured item?
It is between my “I love my boyfriend” Hello Kitty jumper, the Tiffany & Co. ring given to me by my boyfriend and my Sam Edelman suede wedges.
