This week, iFashionhad a natter with English style blogger Gemma Warriner, author of GEMBEAR. Currently residing in Scotland, Gemma started her fashion blog after discovering and following other bloggers who inspired her. We can’t get enough of Gemma’s chic city style, so we picked her brains about blogging, online shopping and the best new season trends.
What inspired you to start GEMBEAR?
I stumbled on the world of blogging completely by accident, and started to follow a number of bloggers for a few months. I wasn’t sure on starting my own to begin with, because I didn’t imagine that anyone would care what I wore or thought about trends but then I realised fashion is about feeling good in yourself and expressing that through your clothes. More than a year later, here I am.
How would you describe your signature style?
I wouldn’t categorise myself when it comes to my style. One day I’ll be wearing a floaty flower print dress, the next I’ll be wearing leather look trousers with boots and a leather jacket. I wear whatever I feel comfortable in, so I refuse to wear certain styles if they don’t suit my frame even though I think they look amazing on others (high waisted jeans, I’m looking at you)!

What is the greatest reward that blogging has brought you?
Honestly, other bloggers. I’ve come to know some amazing people, with fantastic style and even better personalities. Blogging is like a community, something you will never get from reading a magazine.
Do you think blogging has any negatives?
I’ve never been a victim of this myself, but I have seen some bloggers get nasty comments that aren’t constructive in any way. I guess you have to accept that when you put yourself out there so publicly, and as they say – ‘haters gonna hate’. For me personally, I work full time so I don’t always have the time to update my blog but even so, I always try to make sure I blog interesting content and not just for the sake of it.
Who is your favourite fashion blogger and why?
Presently, I would have to say Zina at Fashionvibe-blog.blogspot.com, because she has such versatility. There hasn’t been a single outfit she’s posted that has bored me. One day she’ll be wearing super sexy high heels and the next she’s wearing converse with jeans. She always surprises me, and that’s what I look for in a blog.
If you had 10 minutes to get ready for a blogger meet up, what would you put together?
I’d grab myself a dress with a peter pan collar, black tights, my black topshop boots and a leather jacket. I’m really into Aztec rings at the moment, so I could guarantee I’d have at least two on my fingers.

iFashion is all about shopping online. What are your favourtie online boutiques?
ASOS.com, Missguided.co.uk and for those days when i’m feeling a bit flush, Net-A-Porter.com. Admittedly, sometimes I like to go on the latter just to look at the amazing clothes.
What is the most loved item in your wardrobe and why?
Oh this is easy, my leather jacket from Zara! I’ve only had it for about three months and I wear it all the time. It goes with everything, and if I’m feeling slightly uninspired by an outfit one day – I just throw it on and instantly feel amazing.
What S/S trend are you most looking forward to wearing?
Bold colourful prints! I love flower prints, and having seen them all over the catwalk I can’t wait to wear them on a sunny day with my sunglasses and lots of ice-cream.
Finally, if any, what are you top New Year’s resolutions?
Hmmm, generally I don’t make New Year’s resolutions because I like to think, if there’s something I want to do – why have to wait until the start of a new year to do it? So instead, I’m just hoping for lots more amazing experiences to look back on and to have no regrets.
