Blogger Style: Charlene O’Rourke

Style blogger Charlene O’Rourke is one of our favourite British bloggers. With a distinct style, trademark glossy dark hair and signature bold lip, Charlene has an enviable look from head to toe. Equally at home in vintage or thrift finds as she is in Topshop, Charlene’s effortless combinations never fail to impress. With a new collection available to buy through Etsy (http://www.etsy.com/people/MutinousDaze), iFashion takes 10 minutes to talk to the blogger about her love of all things fashion.

Hi Charlene, why did you start your blog Strutt?
I had been reading fashion blogs like Stylebubble for years and one day I thought “why don’t I start one myself?”. So I did there and then with no prior thought to it. It was very spontaneous. I wish I had thought of doing it sooner and I am not sure why I didn’t.

iFashion loves your chic grunge look. How would you describe your own personal style?
My personal style is always a bit quirky, but generally changes all of the time. I get bored easily.

What draws you to an item of clothing?
If I think not many other people will go for a particular item then I will buy it!!

Do you tend to plan your outfits? If so, how do you go about creating a look in the morning?
As much as I would like to say ‘oh what this old thing I just threw it on this morning’ I cant. I do have to plan my outfits. I pick an item from my wardrobe and then try a lot of other things from my wardrobe with it to see what goes. That’s about it really, there’s no special formula to it.

You have recently started selling clothes you make on etsy. What inspires your collection?
Most of it is just basics in different printed fabrics that I find in markets. I think it’s nicer to have simple items sometimes as it’s easier to make them your own when styling them.

What item in your wardrobe do you wear most?
I always wear hats. I don’t feel like myself without one. I can’t really explain why, it’s just part of my character. I had one from Topshop for years that was stolen at a festival. I felt so weird without it as it was always practically glued to my head! I searched high and low for a new one, then after moaning about it on my blog the lovely people from vintage company Rokit sent me a new one as they knew how I felt as fellow hat lovers. And it was even better! It has a little feather on the side which my last one didn’t and is so cute. I don’t know what i’d do if I lost that one!

Are there any collections you particularly liked at LFW?
I liked the Charles Anastase collection so much because a lot of the clothes are so girly and a little bit childish, but are made in fabrics that are a bit sexy and more adult, such as the sheer fabrics and silks. If they were not made from those fabrics, then the outfits were made less innocent with platform and thigh high boots. My favourite outfit was a sheer top with embellished peter pan collar that was paired with velvet trousers.

What is your dream A/W outfit?
Anything from the Charles Anastase Collection

Who is your unlikely style icon at the moment?
Oh I’m not sure I keep wearing big Dierdre Barlow glasses at the moment so maybe her back in her Corrie hey day

Have you ever regretted wearing a particular outfit?
Yes and no. There are quite a few outfits that I think oh god what was I thinking but they help me to learn what does and doesn’t work for me.

Finally, what is the one item you would save for a year to purchase?
Hmm probably THIS Miu Miu Coat.

Thanks Charlene. Read more about Charlene and her style on her BLOG.
