While we are still recovering from all the Christmas and New Year festivities, tinsel town’s finest have no such rest as they prepare for the biggest months of the year; awards season! Kicking off this Sunday with the esteemed Golden Globes, we can only imagine the frantic preparations the A list must be currently undertaking, most importantly what red-carpet worthy ensemble they will grace the luxurious red carpet in. iFashion takes a trip down memory lane and recaps the eight most iconic awards season dresses.
To celebrate the upcoming red carpet glamour we have taken a look back at some of our favourite award show looks.
Charlize Theron took centre stage at the 2004 Golden Globes. Winning an award for her role in Monster, the actress looked stunning in a chiffon yellow dress by Dior. The soft, feminine glamour of the gown put her at the top of best dressed lists, surely a welcome change from her dowdy ‘Monster’ ensembles.
Another of our favourite looks comes from another blond beauty: Kate Hudson. Kate wowed on the red carpet in a plunging back, white Pucci gown. A daring choice but Kate pulled it off with elegance and poise.
At the 2009, Screen Actors Guild Awards, British actress Kate Winslet looked vibrant in a figure hugging Narciso Rodriguez gown, Chopard jewels and Christian Louboutin shoes.
Taking place in February, the BAFTA red carpet has also seen its fair share of stunning evening gowns. Back in 2009, Penelope Cruz wore a black Azzedine Alaia dress. Comparisons were made to the late Audrey Hepburn with her high chignon and beautiful diamonds.
Needless to say, awards season rounds up with the mother of all events – the annual Academy Awards. Probably the biggest night of the year for Hollywood, the stars arrive in the finest garments. An excuse to turn up the fashion notch to the highest degree, we simply can’t wait to see what the 2012 Oscar nominees will wear this year. Who could forget the dramatic, indulgent yet undeniably gorgeous Elie Saab dress Halle Berry accepted her 2002 oscar award in? Treading on the fine line between overtly sexy and elegant, the dress has gone down in Oscar history. Our favourite Oscar dress of all time, however, has to be Cameron Diaz’s 2010 Oscar de la Renta. Glamorous, timeless and breathtaking; the dress struck a perfect balance. A true Hollywood awards gown, we think it deserves an Oscar in itself!
