What: A brand new Italian concept
Where: Assaggini
Why: Small plates, BIG taste and all to share!
London’s Haymarket is known for two things: theatres and restaurants. The newest addition to the street is Assaggini, a brand new concept for Italian food. Me being addicted to pasta (food in general really), I decided that I needed to go check out the latest arrival. After a quick walk from Piccadilly Circus, you arrive at Assaggini and the first thing you notice is the incredible and HUGE chandelier hanging from the ceiling. It makes the entire top floor into something quite amazing. I was fixated to it for a good part of five minutes, going “ooooh shiny”.
Once I got over the first impression, we were taken downstairs and seated to our table at the back corner with great views of the restaurant. Oak floors and tables, art work and mirrors create a very comfortable atmosphere. I sank into my chair and started going over the menu.
The menu is divided into sections and you can pretty much just get started once you have, of course, ordered a cocktail. I would recommend the cocktails in particular and it’s quite refreshing to have a restaurant with original great cocktails.
I think over all we must have gone through 13 or so plates (all smaller sizes), the “main” dishes can be ordered in “small” or “bigger” and are all PERFECT for sharing. I was with just with my other half and we had a great time first of all choosing from the menu and then having the great opportunity to try most things. It was really quite fun. Italian tapas, perfection. The only thing I wouldn’t share with him was my chocolate cake. Hands off, all mine.
The restaurant was filled with people, couples, friends and few larger groups and everyone was clearly having a good time. Laughter and chatting filled the space and the food kept on coming. We really had a great time at Assaggini’s and expect you to do the same.
