We were shocked and saddened today to hear about the death of the extremely talented Amy Winehouse.
The singer, aged 27, was found dead in her North London flat this afternoon, after a widely publicised battled with addiction to drugs and alcohol.
There has already been a mass of tributes paid to the troubled star, with Rihanna tweeting ‘I am genuinely heartbroken about this #DearAmy’. Lily Allen spoke out via Twitter also, saying: ‘Its just beyond sad, there’s nothing else to say. She was such a lost soul, may she rest in peace,’ and Jessie J wrote
‘The way tears are streaming down my face. Such a loss’.
Amy achieved alot in her short life. Despite only releasing two albums, she paved the way for the wave of soul singers and stand out voices taking the lead in the charts today. Sadly she was drawn to the dark side of fame and died young, like so many music legends before her.
Amy’s road to fame began when she attended the Brit school like Adele and Jessie J. She went on to be signed and released her first album Frank – to high critical acclaim.
It was the singer’s second album, however, that she was best known for. Back to Black won five grammys and will go down as one of the best records ever. Although her personal life and her battle with addiction hit the headlines more than her music, she will no doubt be remembered as one of the best musical talents of our generation.
RIP Amy Winehouse you will be missed.
