ALEXA CHUNG – STYLE STAR

Being presented with the coveted ‘British Style Award’ at one of the biggest events on the British fashion calendar is no mean feat. Leggy Alexa scooped up the award for the second year in a row, after being nominated alongside other inspirational women such as Emma Watson, Florence Welch and Adele. As the only award nominated by the public, it recognises an iconic individual who embodies the spirit of London and British style. We certainly couldn’t think of a more deserving winner; or a woman who impresses us more with her effortless, classic sartorial choices! In celebration, we have chosen our five favourite Alexa looks over the past year, examining just why she champions British style so expressively.

5. She can work a quirky print. It’s no secret that Brits love to look a little kooky, and Alexa rocks a kitsch look with certified ease. At the Vogue Eyewear launch she was clad in a Mary Katrantzou printed silk dress. Mary graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2005 and is fast becoming the designer to be seen in with her iconic prints and modern silhouettes. Alexa is always one step ahead of the fashion pack and picked out this little number to resounding praise from the fashion press.

4. She balances androgyny with femininity. A love of denim, plaid and trousers; Alexa is a poster girl for the tomboy look. However, she always makes sure to balance it out with suitably feminine touches. Take her look for the 40th Mulberry anniversary in NY. Alexa softens her cigarette pants and mac trench with a feminine frilled blouse and a Mulberry bag. Lest we forget the British icon even has a world famous designer handbag named after her!

3. She’s a lady. Alexa not only works androgyny but is also a perfect example for British lady-like style. Think tea dresses, Mary-Janes and bows and you are along the right track! At the opening of “Richard Hambleton: A Retrospective” in NY, Alexa teamed her girly printed dress with super feminine glitter Miu Miu booties and a quilted Chanel bag.

2. She does off-duty cool like no other. The British are well-renowned for their love of comfort and practicality when it comes to fashion but Alexa manages to bridge the gap between a relaxed casual look and high-impact style. Strolling around Manhattan’s East Village earlier this year, Alexa looks too-cool-for-school in a denim babydoll, Ray Bans and sandals. Come back to the UK Miss Chung we miss you!

1. She loves British designers! Alexa can’t get enough of cutting edge UK design talent and often chooses to wear British designer pieces. At the British Fashion Awards, Alexa noted her love for Christopher Kane, ERDEM, Charlotte Olympia and Vivienne Westwood just to name a few! She attended the Alexander McQueen Costume Institute Gala in May, wearing an A/W Christopher Kane design. The dress is absolutely stunning and the perfect match for a British style queen!
