Fashion and rock royalty Stella McCartney is set to return to London next year to showcase a one of collection from her eponymous label. The designer, who has showcased her biannual collections in Paris for the past few years, has set a date for the 18th February 2012 to show a “special fashion presentation” in London. The month will also mark the opening of a new Stella McCartney store, a fragrance launch and an exhibition “World of Stella” at Selfridges. That is a whole lot of Stella!
The news surrounding the ‘one-off’ collection has already sparked much curious debate, although it has been confirmed the collection will not be Olympic themed. However Stella has been commissioned by Adidas to be creative director behind the Team GB knit. One thing is for sure, 2012 is certainly shaping up to be quite a year for the UK.
In 2009, British fashion house Burberry returned to the UK, moving its biannual fashion shows from Milan to London. Giles Deacon also returned to London, after showcasing in Paris as did Vivienne Westwood’s Red Label RTW line. It is a trend that is confirming successful British fashion houses no longer need the support of powerhouse commercial capitals to achieve financial success and London is once again very much back on the fashion radar.
While Stella is set to return to Paris, presenting her A/W collection at Palais Garnier two weeks after her UK show; we can only hope showcasing in London proves to be such a success that she decides to return home for good! Until then, iFashion and the British Fashion Council shall wait with baited breath to see what amazing creations the talented lady will come up with next.
